Here’s just a sampling of what’s on the agenda for Saturday morning, August 10, when we will focus on procedures to stop afib:
Dr. David Callans and Dr. Mark Link: Catheter Ablation Procedures and Tools
During the first morning session on Saturday, August 10, Dr. Callans and Dr. Link will discuss the various catheter ablation procedures and tools. They will explore various tools and energy sources, such as radiofrequency, cryoballoon, and ultrasound ablation tools. They will also look at mapping tools and image integration, intracardiac echocardiography, and other new approaches and tools. For each, they’ll talk about who is a candidate and what to expect if you choose to have one.
Dr. Andrea Natale: Evolution of Afib and How to Ablate It
As our understanding of the progression of afib increases, ablation of afib changes, too. Dr. Natale will talk about how afib evolves and gets more complicated over time, and how he approaches the ablation of complicated afib. He’ll also discuss considerations as to whether to electrically isolate the left atrial appendage.
Dr. Douglas Packer: What Does CABANA Tell Us and Where Are We Going with Ablation?
We’ve been fortunate to welcome Dr. Packer, CABANA Trial Principal Investigator, at previous conferences, and this year he’ll discuss the CABANA Trial and what it tells us about medications vs. catheter ablation and the resulting quality of life from each. He will talk about what we’ve learned about catheter ablation outcomes (including by age or other medical conditions), safety, complications, and more.
As I look over the names of our distinguished faculty members, and the topics they’re covering, I’m newly inspired about what a gift this conference is to the afib community. It’s such a wonderful opportunity for people living with afib to become educated and empowered to get the best possible treatment.
